Types of roller shutters
- Box mounted on the window: ordered together with the new window, the simplest option when you replace windows.
- Box built into the facade insulation: invisible from outside, ideal for new builds or full renovations.
- External renovation box: to fit a shutter to an existing window without major work.
Manual, electric or solar
- Manual, with a strap or a crank handle
- Wired electric, with a wall switch or remote control
- Solar, no cable, with a battery charged by a small panel
- Somfy smart home control, to schedule opening and closing
Adding roller shutters to existing windows
If your windows are still in good shape, a renovation box can be fitted outside. A solar motor is often the easiest choice here, as no cable needs to reach the window.
How to choose
- Decide when you order your windows: an integrated box is neater and insulates better than a later addition.
- Choose a solar motor for existing homes where no cable reaches the window.
- Think about large sliding doors: a motorised shutter saves you lifting heavy slats by hand.
