What decides the cost of new windows
Two windows that look alike can have very different prices. Here is what really changes the price of uPVC and aluminium windows, with our advice for each point.
| Factor | Why the price changes | Our advice |
|---|---|---|
| Size | The larger the window, the more frame, glass and hardware it needs. Very large sizes also need reinforcement. | Keep the existing openings where you can: making an opening bigger adds building work. |
| Opening type | Fixed glazing is the simplest. Tilt and turn windows, French doors and sliding doors add hardware and adjustment. | Use fixed glazing where you never open, and tilt and turn where you want ventilation. |
| uPVC or aluminium | Aluminium allows slimmer frames and large glass areas, but the material and the thermal break cost more. | uPVC is enough for most houses. Aluminium makes sense for large glazed areas and a very contemporary style. |
| Profile system | The depth of the frame and the number of chambers and seals change both insulation and price. | Choose a profile that can reach the values required for Klimabonus. |
| Double or triple glazing | Triple glazing is heavier and insulates better. It needs a suitable frame and hardware. | Triple glazing is almost always the right choice in Luxembourg, and it is needed for Klimabonus. |
| Colour and finish | White is standard. A colour foil, different colours inside and outside, or a wood effect add a production step. | Anthracite outside and white inside is a good compromise. |
| Roller shutters and blinds | An integrated box, a motor or solar control is added to the window. | Decide when you order: adding a shutter later costs more. |
| Security | Anti-burglary hardware (RC2 class) and laminated glass strengthen the window. | Keep them for the ground floor and other easy-to-reach windows. |
| Removing the old windows | Taking out, removing and recycling the old frames takes time. | Ask for removal and disposal to be included and itemised in the quote. |
| Access and floor level | A flat on an upper floor or difficult access can require lifting equipment or more labour. | Mention the floor level and access when you request your quote. |
| Renovation fit or full removal | A renovation fit keeps the old frame. Full removal takes everything out and needs finishing work around the window. | We recommend the right method during the measurement visit, based on the condition of your windows. |
How grants lower the bill
In Luxembourg, two schemes can reduce the cost of new windows. The figures below are the official rules, not our prices.
Verified on 17 October 2026.
- Klimabonus pays back an amount per m² of replaced window, if the building, the glazing and the outside wall meet the conditions. Check my eligibility.
- The 3% VAT rate replaces the standard VAT rate when you renovate a home more than 10 years old used as a main residence. The 3% VAT conditions.
In both cases the application must be made before the work starts.
How we prepare your fixed-price quote
- Free measurement visit: we measure every opening and note the fitting conditions.
- Detailed written quote: every window is listed with its size, profile, glazing, colour and options.
- Fixed price: the amount in the quote is what you pay, with no hidden extras.
Tips to keep the cost down
- Group your windows in one order: one visit, one delivery, one fitting.
- Choose common colours: white or anthracite are simpler to produce than special shades.
- Use fixed glazing where you never open the window.
- Use the grants by applying before the work starts. We prepare the applications with you.
